Some of Us Would Like to Have Less Noise in Our Lives
We are currently being bombarded by external stimuli; much more than in the past. Robocalls. Pop-up ads. Blaring volume in the movies. Car alarms. E-mail message notifications intruding when we are trying to concentrate on our work. This onslaught contributes to a lack of autonomy because we have not chosen to be exposed to it; we are passive recipients. And stimuli that are unwanted add to our stress level.
Some May Actually Seek Excessive Stimuli
Some people embrace the cacophony. They check their email every few minutes, cram their schedules with activities and patronize loud venues (some restaurants design their space to boost the noise level, to increase the "energy.") Why would people subject themselves to stimuli that others experience as excessive? Often, this is done to suppress uncomfortable thoughts and feelings that would otherwise spill out. Or to fill an internal emptiness that is a defense against painful feelings. Or to feel that being busy conveys worth. And even though a person may seek these stimuli, her choice is not an autonomous act; it is driven by inner discomfort.
What Can We Do About This?
Use of my complimentary Tool can assist with either situation. If you would like to protect yourself from excessive stimuli, the Tool can help you devise ways to do that. In Step 3, you can wish to feel peaceful and calm, but you can also wish for a new mental pathway in your mind that will help you figure out how to deal with one or more of the unwanted stimuli in your life. (You may already know a solution but have not implemented it.) Again, the wish must be a positive one: not "make the Robocalls go away", but wish for the sense of peace and satisfaction you will have when you are free of them.
If you are one who needs the excessive stimuli, for whatever reason, the Tool can help you, too. In Step 3, in addition to the wish to feel peaceful and calm, you can also wish for a new mental pathway in your mind that will help you identify the reason for your use of excessive stimuli. This wish may take longer to be fulfilled because of its complexity.
