Governments Aren't Addressing Climate Change Effectively Enough, But...
In recent news, we read that the countries of our world aren't working fast enough to decrease and finally end our reliance on fossil fuels, which are contributing to the climate change that threatens our existence. Many people are pessimistic about our chances for humanity (and other species) to survive.
There is Hope
While I share their concerns, I also have hope because of the incredible creativity, brilliance, resourcefulness and motivation of many people.
We already know about solar panels, windmills, and LEED certified buildings; and I have previously described a new method of no-till farming that doesn't disturb the soil and therefore doesn't release carbon from it. (The CoCoSan farm, in an area near me, is one example.) Perhaps you have read about vertical farming, which is feasible for cities. And microgrids, which free areas from dependence on far-flung power lines. And wave power, which works when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing.
Now There are Additional Discoveries and Inventions
- A rechargeable battery for homes that stores energy from solar sources for later consumption, and which returns excess energy to a power grid. (Tesla Powerwall, among others)
- A battery (that is in development) that is made with a new substance that can provide enough power for electric cars to enable them to travel for long distances before requiring recharging. (Sila Nanotechnologies)
- An atmospheric water generator that extracts water from the air and can provide more than enough water to meet a family's needs. (H2O Machine, among others)
- A carbon capture technique that pulls CO2 out of the air, and after several steps injects it down into basalt, where it turns into rock in two or three years; avoiding the danger of leakage that could occur if it is injected into empty oil or gas fields. ( Climeworks)
Here in California, much of the state is subject to forest fires and drought. Microgrids could eliminate the need for power lines that traverse long distances, thus reducing one source of forest fires. Atmospheric water generators could provide adequate water for humans during droughts.
What About Our Own Creativity?
I am amazed by all this creativity. And we all have the potential for this level of creativity within us. My complimentary Tool can help us access it. In Step 3, wish for a new mental pathway that will be dedicated to helping you with whatever your most current problem is.
