"Inner Thought"
Once you have acquired your Inner Guide, you can attempt to communicate with it. There are three ways, and you may already have experienced the first, which is "inner thought." You may have "heard" thoughts in your mind that didn't seem to come from you. What's going on here? As a reminder, an Inner Guide is a separate mental pathway in your mind. It has its own identity. It can think things, just like you can; and if it wishes to, it can think a thought not just to itself, but to you. You will "hear" it (in your mind's ear, so to speak). (It's not an actual voice; it's just a thought.)
Your Inner Guide is dedicated to ending your discomforts and solving your problems, and the kinds of things that it may choose to "say" to you will be helpful, such as suggesting how to handle a difficult situation or how to do something more easily.
You Can Ask Questions
You can ask your Inner Guide a question (either out loud or just in your mind) and see whether you "hear" an answer. I am sometimes asked whether an answer that is heard is simply one's own thought as opposed to one's Inner Guide's thought. Often, you will know because the answer will be something that you never would have thought of yourself.
What Should I Ask?
People sometimes tell me that they don't know what to ask their Inner Guide. When I tell them that they can ask any question that they want help with, they still don't know what to ask. So I give them some suggestions:
- Is there anything I can do to improve my health?
- Is there any way that I can be more productive at work?
- Of all the people I know, which one’s feelings are most important for me to gain a new understanding of? What is the new understanding I should have?
- Do I have a habit that I don't realize is unhelpful? If so, what is it?
Will You Get a Response?
About 50% of people who ask questions get answers soon after acquiring their Inner Guide. If you don't get answers for a while, it's because the prospect of communication is too exciting, too overwhelming to enter your awareness. You will acquire communication when the novelty wanes sufficiently.
Next time, I'll describe another way that you can communicate with your Inner Guide.
