Sometimes Things Look Dark
It may seem natural to feel pessimistic about the near future, with the uncertainties of the coronavirus (once vaccinated, how long will that protection last, and will it protect against the variants), global warming, political discord, and other problems.
But There are Important Things We Can Celebrate
We have cause to celebrate because we human beings are capable of great creativity. Let us celebrate the scientists in a number of universities (Drs. Kayvon Modjarrad, Maria Elena Bottazzi, Matthew Memoli, and Pamela Bjorkman, among others) who are making progress toward producing one vaccine that will protect against all the coronaviruses: SARS, MERS, Covid-19, and others...including the common cold!
Let us celebrate the creativity of a dairy farmer (Albert Strauss of Marin County, CA) who has created a methane digester that converts his cows’ manure into electricity, which powers the farm. He is working on a pilot project with the auto company BMW to create a small, tank-based methane digester that can power electric vehicles.
There Are Also Small Things to Celebrate
BBC News has an article about celebrating small wins during the pandemic as a way of enjoying things during the monotony and deprivation that many feel: events such as baking a perfect loaf of bread or marking the moment a baby achieves a milestone, such as sitting up. We all have moments of creativity from time to time; they may be micro-moments but we can choose to celebrate them.
