It Will Affect All of Us
While there have been many disasters in recent years (floods, fires, tornadoes, etc.), they have affected only specific populations. Perhaps you were affected, perhaps not. But we are now in the midst of a disaster, the coronavirus, which will affect all of us. It is spreading among people with no history of travel from its origin, or any contact with those who have ("community spread").
Its Impact
Some will die and some will become severely ill, or have loved ones who are affected. But for those of us who avoid becoming infected, or whose infections are sub-clinical or mild, there will still be an impact; and for some, the consequences will be significant.
Economic turmoil is increasing as travel is curtailed and as some events, such as conferences, sporting events, and even church services, have been canceled. Supply chains are being disrupted and we can expect shortages of things we need.
Many companies will be in danger of going bankrupt; therefore, many people will become unemployed. People who don't lose their jobs may lose one or more paychecks and experience financial difficulty. Some schools may close, forcing parents to stay home with their children rather than go to work.
In the Seattle area, a number of health care workers and first responders have themselves been quarantined, reducing the number who are available to care for those who are ill or to respond to emergencies. As the virus spreads, this situation may become generalized.
How Should We Respond?
As usual, some of the information on the internet is inaccurate. Reliable sources include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov) and the National Institutes of Health (www.nih.gov). Regarding the advice about not touching your face, studies show that over 50% of participants were unable to follow this suggestion! I hope you are in the minority who can.
You can use my complimentary Tool in two ways. First, make the usual wish to feel peaceful and calm. Then, make a wish for a new mental pathway that will guide you to take whatever precautions seem appropriate for your situation.
