The Straw that Broke the Camel's Back
Do you ever have moments when one extra problem or responsibility feels like the straw that breaks your back? A broken appliance? An unexpected need for a doctor's appointment? Another request from your child's school? A computer virus? And, yes, holiday preparations?
How Did Things Get This Way?
Some years ago, the majority of people were either breadwinners or homemakers, not both. They were busy, but not frantically so. Today, when so many people occupy both roles, they tend to be very tightly scheduled. When there seems to be no time for the extra demand, how do they cope?
How Does One Cope?
Some demands can be met by sacrificing sleep. Some by moving faster; working harder. And some by cutting corners, which can backfire, causing more problems and more stress. Any of these responses will cause feelings of frustration, irritation or anger, and sometimes depression.
