All of Them Are Important
Beth is a good nurse. She is thorough, respectful to her superiors, and loving. Actually, she is a little too much so, though she doesn’t realize it.
Thorough
Her thoroughness, just a bit excessive, costs her unnecessary effort. It's an unhelpful habit that arose as a reaction to an episode in her early life in which a moment of carelessness caused harm to a younger sibling. It wasn’t her fault, as she had been given too much responsibility for her age. And although she now realizes that, the habit of thoroughness has become locked-in.
Respectful
Her deference to the doctors, not so marked as to be obviously submissive, nevertheless makes it difficult for her to question an order that she realizes is erroneous. She forces herself to do so but again this costs her unnecessary effort. Even though she is competent, her deference, another locked-in habit, causes her to feel safe from assuming responsibility that may cause harm to others (another carry-over from that childhood experience).
Loving
Another carry-over is that she loves her patients a little too much, just to make sure that she will prevent them from coming to any harm. She would take equally good care of them without the need for excessive concern; actually, better care, because her disproportionate love feels oppressive to them. Just slightly. Neither she nor they are aware of the cause.
Greater and Lesser Stresses
Beth is currently undergoing great stress due to her current working conditions, as are so many nurses. But what can she do? Leave the field? Find a situation that would be somewhat less stressful? Join or organize a nurses' strike? Her unhelpful habits, described above, add to the stress she is already experiencing.
An Inner Guide Can Help
If she is having trouble deciding how to help herself (and her colleagues), she could acquire an Inner Guide (a special, unique mental pathway that it is possible for her to create in her mind), that would work, behind the scenes, to help her with all of these stresses. It would cause the unhelpful habits that have become locked-in to gradually disappear. And it would help her know what she could best do to improve her work situation.
An Inner Guide can be acquired by taking the course, Achieving Emotional Comfort®, which is available at: https:// go.emotionalcomfort.com/getcourse
