They Increase Your Overall Stress Level
An Inner Guide can help you with major discomforts and problems, but it also helps with minor ones; those that are so minor that they might seem not worth thinking about. One such has happened to me this week. Although we here in California missed the powerful storms that hit most of the country, we are having a series of "atmospheric rivers," strong rains that come in from the ocean.
One that is predicted to start today, in fact, is being described as unusually destructive; not only do we expect to have strong rain and wind, but also flooding and falling trees. (There has already been some flooding, and a few fallen trees, from recent atmospheric rivers; but the prediction is that these dangers will be worse this time.)
My Minor Problem
So, do I drive to my music lesson today? Or do I stay home? Before acquiring my Inner Guide (many years ago) I would have mentally debated this decision at some length. Is it really dangerous enough that I should stay home? Predictions often turn out to be inaccurate, leading people to expect worse than what actually occurs. It would probably be safe to drive there. But they say that there will be falling trees. There are many trees on the way to his house, which is in the Berkeley hills (where the wind will be stronger). And what about flooding? I read that it's hard to know how deep a flooded road is, and that twelve inches of water will cause a light car to float away. Should I go? Should I not go?
My Inner Guide to the Rescue
Fortunately, I do have an Inner Guide, and I need not worry about this decision. She has assessed the risk, and made it known to me that I should not go. Why does such a minor problem matter? Because even minor problems add to one's stress level. And there are lots of minor problems, so their cumulative load is significant.
How, you might ask, did my Inner Guide make her opinion known to me? There are a variety of ways, which are described and taught in my course Achieving Emotional Comfort®, which is available at: go.emotionalcomfort.com/getcourse
