What Does it Mean to be Your Best Self?
Your best self is a state of mind in which you feel comfortable. You have a minimal amount of the mental static that comes from internal distress caused by feelings of anxiety, depression, irritation or anger, guilt or shame, or the turmoil caused by ambivalence. And you enjoy all the positive stimuli that come your way (interesting and pleasant sights, sounds, and other sensory experiences).
Feeling comfortable, you are stimulated to think about what things you need to acquire (if you don't already have them) to maximize your health; things like a healthy, delicious cuisine and a form of exercise that's fun. If you have physical or mental limitations, you accept them.
Feeling comfortable, you seek the stimulation of new challenges in your work, not burdensome demands on yourself, but fresh opportunities that feel enticing.
Feeling comfortable, when you interact with others, you won't have negative thoughts about them: no feelings of envy or jealousy, frustration or impatience, annoyance or anger, or intimidation. You will be able to give fully of yourself to others, while maintaining your boundaries and avoiding overworking yourself.
Feeling comfortable, you can view the problems in the world without becoming anxious, depressed, or angry. Even if some of these problems affect you directly, you'll remain calm as you find ways to deal with them.
The Results
You will be appreciated, and sometimes loved, for the way you live when you are comfortable, and you will enjoy that. But what you will enjoy most is the profound sense of happiness and fulfillment that this way of living will bring you.
